Can we just talk about how easy these are for a moment? They are ridiculously easy and they really only need two ingredients. Although the bacon wrapped onion ring recipe technically has 4 possible ingredients, you really could make it with only two and it would still taste delicious.
Brings these to a potluck, or family gathering, or use them as a side dish, or a snack! Regardless of how you use them, they are still going to be delicious and easy to make.
Even my kids gobbled them up! Okay honestly, one ate them and one of them took the onion out and ate just the bacon! These might be a bit more adult friendly than kid friendly, but I still used them as a part of our dinner. Delicious!
Bacon Wrapped Onion Rings Ingredients
You will need the following ingredients and an air fryer to make this recipe.
My current air fryer is the Gourmia Air fryer, which can be found on my kitchen essentials Amazon storefront.
Ingredients
Thin cut bacon
2 large onions
1 tbsp liquid aminos
1 tbsp nutritional yeast
Two onions are only an estimate. How many onions you need will depend on how large your onions are. You will use the largest part of the onions for this recipe and then discard or save the smaller pieces for use later.
I love making skillet meals so the leftover onions never go to waste and are easy to incorporate again into a cast-iron skillet meal.
Air Fryer Bacon Onion Rings Instructions
Slice onions approximately ¼ inch thick. Separate onions in large circles that are two onion ring thick.
You will discard or keep for later extra smaller slices.
Wrap each onion ring with 1 bacon strip. You may need to stretch the bacon to get it around the onion. Larger onions may take 2 bacon strips.
Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees.
Place all bacon onion rings into a pre-heated air fryer. Air fry for 12 minutes or until desired crispness is obtained.
These are best served with a dip like Rhonda's Ranch dressing from the Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook. You can find the recipe on page 471.
Tips & Tricks for this Recipe
Don't be afraid to customize this recipe! When there are minimum ingredients, you can certainly play around with different modifications to make it fit your needs. One thing that I've wanted to try, but haven't quite got around to it yet is covering them in freshly ground pepper!
The sky is the limit!
- Although a thick cut will work, a thin cut is preferable for this recipe.
- When you are wrapping the onion, do two wraps at first to secure the bacon onto the onion ring.
- These do not store well in the refrigerator. They will become soggy.
